This Month’s Give Away Is…Peace Silver Dollar!
Minted from 1921-1928 and again from 1934 and 1935 this coin was designed by Anthony de Francisci. The Peace Silver Dollar was the last United States dollar to be struck for circulation in silver and was the result of a competition to find a design emblematic of peace after World War 1.
This redesign of the Morgan silver dollar that had been in coinage since 1907, depicts a Bald Eagle at rest clutching an olive branch with the legend “Peace”. The first coins were struck on December 28, 1921 with the passage of the Pittman Act and when the acts requirements were met in 1928 production was ceased. As a result of other legislation more were minted in 1934 and 1935.
These coins are a part of American history that you have the privilege of owning and holding right in your hand just as they did in 1921!
